Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCAA) Opportunities, March 2023

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCAA) was established in 1959 by Ordinance No. 413 and the Game Parks Law of Tanzania (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act No. 14 of 1975. As a natural property, the NCAA was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1979. The NCAA is the most successfully managed multiple land-use area in the world, with an estimated 87,000 indigenous people living in harmony with wildlife.

The spectacular 250 km2 Ngorongoro Crater in NCAA is the world's largest unbroken caldera. In the crater, there is a large population of wild ungulates, such as wildebeests, zebras, elands, Thompson, and Grant gazelles, as well as a visible population of black rhinos and hippos. The lion population is the densest ever recorded within the crater.

On the crater's rim, floor, and interior are buffalo and elephants. Numerous mountain reedbucks and leopards inhabit the crater, rim, and nearby forests. NCAA is the only conservation area in the world where visitors can observe the "big five" (elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and hippo) in their natural habitat during a four-hour drive within the crater.
